Rebekah is a partner at Barteaux Durnford with comprehensive experience in employment and labour law, human rights, workers’ compensation, occupational health and safety, administrative law, governance and privacy.

Her deep understanding of workplace issues comes from years of client representation across the many facets of employment law. She advises on certification, Collective Agreement interpretation, employment contracts, termination, Human Rights, Labour Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, Worker’s Compensation matters and regulatory hearings. Rebekah has experience with Human Rights and Grievance mediation, and settlement negotiations. She has also conducted workplace investigations.

In lead roles, Rebekah has represented clients at Grievance Arbitration,  Labour Standards Tribunal, Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, Canadian Human Rights Commission, Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal, and Workers Compensation Board. She has worked with teams to represent clients at the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board and the Labour Board.

Rebekah’s extensive court experience includes representing clients at the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, both the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Courts of Appeal, and Federal Court.

As Director of the Claimant Adviser Office, Rebekah ran the free advocacy service for the Department of Justice, Manitoba. More recently, as Executive Director of the Community Justice Society, she was responsible for the implementation of the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program in the Halifax Regional Municipality.



Rebekah was born and schooled in England, and studied in Canada as well. She enjoys travel, hiking, and, a new discovery: yoga. Rebekah is passionate about the arts and loves to be near the ocean.
