PROFESSIONAL OVERVIEW

Kate was called to the bar in 2015 and joined Barteaux Durnford in 2018, practicing exclusively in Labour and Employment Law. Prior to joining Barteaux Durnford, she maintained a busy general practice in a small rural firm.

In addition to practicing in the areas of Family, Property and Wills and Estates, Kate focused on supporting employers and small business owners by drafting employment contracts and policies, as well as providing advice during terminations.

During her articles, Kate had a general practice focusing on criminal law, and acted as an agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. She has appeared before the Provincial Court, Small Claims Court and Supreme Court on various matters.

PERSONAL OVERVIEW

Kate’s decision to practice Labour and Employment Law originated from her previous career as a teacher with the Halifax Regional School Board. During law school, she was a member of the Labour and Employment Law Society and participated in the Hicks Morley Labour Law Moot. When not at work, Kate can be found spending time with her family, practicing yoga, or digging in her garden.
