PRACTICE OVERVIEW

Jennifer brings to Barteaux Durnford over five years experience in conflict resolution in labour law and family law. An experienced advocate, she has appeared before professional discipline bodies, at arbitration hearings, Small Claims Court, Provincial Court, Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. 

With a background in Human Resource Management and training in Mediation and Collaborative Law, Jennifer has always been interested in what makes people tick. She helps employers protect against legal challenges and maintain a happy, productive workplace, free from harassment. She shows employers how to turn workplace conflict into an opportunity to strengthen employer/employee relationships.
  
Jennifer’s current practice interests include workplace investigations and assessments, mediation and negotiations. Prior to coming to Barteaux Durnford, she was a labour relations officer and lawyer for a large union in New Brunswick, working on collective agreement interpretation, workplace accommodation and workers compensation rights, attendance management programs, performance management, policy grievances, contested job competitions and harassment complaints. 

PERSONAL OVERVIEW

Jennifer is passionate about travelling and learning about different cultures.  During university, she spent a year in France studying international business and a summer in Rwanda working for the Ministry of Justice.  She enjoyed studies in effective communication methods, alternative forms of dispute resolution and inter-cultural cooperation. 

Active in her community, Jennifer  served on the board of the Fredericton Legal Advice Clinic, most recently as President, and she has volunteered with the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, the International Development Committee of the YMCA and the Junior Achievement Company Program.
